Cannabis (Marijuana)
Status: Schedule I Controlled Substance
Federally illegal under the Controlled Substances Act. However, the 2018 Farm Bill legalized hemp (cannabis with less than 0.3% THC). Federal enforcement has generally deferred to state laws in states with legalization.
Psilocybin (Magic Mushrooms)
Status: Schedule I Controlled Substance
Federally illegal with no accepted medical use. Recent FDA breakthrough therapy designations for depression treatment have sparked renewed research interest.
DMT & Ayahuasca
Status: Schedule I Controlled Substance
Federally illegal. However, ayahuasca used in certain religious ceremonies by recognized churches may be exempt under the Religious Freedom Restoration Act.
Peyote (Mescaline)
Status: Schedule I Controlled Substance
Federally illegal, but the American Indian Religious Freedom Act allows use by Native American Church members for religious purposes.
